The start of a day in school happens with a prayer after we join the assembly line.
Have you ever wondered why we start the day with a prayer?
My parents taught me to offer a short prayer when we wake up and just before bed. I know several offices that start the day with a prayer. Why is that discipline followed?
Prayer is not seeking help from the supreme being. It is about guiding you through your day filled with activities—some of which may be good and others that pose hurdles in your path. It is about making the right decisions, having the conviction to do the right thing, helping fellow mates, bringing in a sense of equanimity and being a better judge of what to involve yourself in that will help humanity in general.
Prayer is also seen as an oath – that you take every day. You are, in a way, promising yourself the order you wish to maintain. It is about talking to your conscience. You keep it blemish-free, which will help you cross all obstacles in your path.
The shlokas you learn at Gurukulam have a similar effect. It is a good initiative to learn shlokas and the meaning/lessons behind them, helping to make the world a better place.
