History of Garudachalam

Garudachalamis located at Jayanthipuram, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. It is famous as a Hindu pilgrimage centre of Lord Narsimha and forms the Pancha Narasimha Kshetramalong with the four temples in Vedadri.

Lord Narsimha is available in Five forms in and around Vedadri village – These five forms are Lakshmi Narasimha, and Yoga Narasimha – in the main temple in Vedadri, JwalaNarasimh Swamy on uphill near main temple, in River Krishna near the temple and Veera Narashimha swamy in Garudachalam.

Lord Narasimha is the 4th avatar of lord Vishnuto save his devotee Prahalada from the clutches of his demon father Hiranyakashipu.

Lord Srimannarayana Murthyincarnated himself as ‘Narasimha,’ killed the mighty demon Hiranya Kasapa, and saved Prahalda, and has since remained as Jwala Narasimha on the mountain top at Vedadri. Lord Bramha then requested Jwala Narasimha to stay in Sathya Loka as Saligrama Narasimha. But, even before Brahma could offer his worship to the Lord in Sathya Loka, the Satya Loka was consumed in flames. Lord Brahma then personally brought Saligrama Narasimha Murthy to the Krishnaveni River and erected the Saligrama Murthy on Saligrama Mountain.

Later, at the request of Rishis like RishyaSrugna and king, the Lord stayed in the middle of the mountain as Yogananda Narasimha Swamy, and at the request of Vana Devatha, as Laxmi Narasimha Murthy.It is said that Sri Garuda performed penance to become Sri Narasimha Swamy’s Vahanam and at the request of the Garudas, stayed as Veera NarasimhaGarudachalam.
